Know they're okay.
Every single day.
A simple daily check-in that gives families peace of mind — without surveillance, without awkward calls, without compromising anyone's independence.
The worry never stops.
Your parent lives alone. Your grandparent insists they're fine. You call when you can, but you can't call every day. And in the back of your mind, there's always that question: Are they okay?
28M+
Americans 65 and older live alone — and that number is growing every year.
Existing solutions feel like surveillance. GPS trackers, motion sensors, camera systems — they solve your worry by taking away their dignity. There has to be a better way.
How it works
1. A gentle reminder
Every day at their chosen time, your family member gets a simple notification: a friendly nudge to check in.
2. One tap to confirm
They tap a single button — or reply to a text. That's it. No apps to learn, no forms to fill out. Just "I'm okay."
3. Your family knows
You see their status update instantly. Green means they checked in. If they miss it, Nook gently escalates — so you never have to wonder.
Built different
Not surveillance
No GPS tracking. No cameras. No motion sensors. Nook respects independence — it's a check-in, not a check-up.
Works without an app
Your family member can check in by replying to a text message. No smartphone required. No app to install or learn.
Smart escalation
If a check-in is missed, Nook sends gentle re-reminders before alerting family. No false alarms. No panic.
Private by design
No data sold. No ads. No social features you didn't ask for. Your family's safety data stays yours.
Gentle escalation, not panic buttons
Nook gives your family member every chance to respond before involving anyone else.
Check-in time
A gentle push notification or SMS arrives at their chosen time each day.
Gentle re-reminder
Missed the first one? Nook sends a follow-up 30 minutes later. No drama.
Primary contact notified
Still no response? Your designated primary contact gets a heads-up via SMS.
Full circle alert
If there's still no check-in, everyone in the care circle is notified. Time to reach out.
The data is clear
After you move out, time with family never recovers.

“I built Nook after realizing I was calling my mom every evening just to make sure she was okay — and feeling guilty on the nights I forgot. She didn't need a surveillance system. She needed something that respected her independence while giving me peace of mind.”

Frequently asked questions
What is Nook?+
Nook is a simple daily check-in app for families. It sends your loved one a gentle reminder each day, and lets your family know they are okay — without surveillance, cameras, or GPS tracking.
How does the check-in work?+
At a time they choose, your family member gets a push notification or SMS. They tap one button (or reply to the text) to confirm they are okay. That is it — no forms, no apps to learn.
What happens if they miss a check-in?+
Nook gently escalates. First, a re-reminder 30 minutes later. Then, your designated primary contact gets a text. Finally, if there is still no response, the entire care circle is notified. No panic — just a sensible chain.
Does my family member need a smartphone?+
No. Nook works via SMS — they can check in by replying to a text message from any phone. A smartphone enables push notifications and the app, but is not required.
How is my data protected?+
Nook uses end-to-end encryption (TLS 1.3), stores data with AES-256 encryption, and enforces row-level security on every database table. We never sell data, show ads, or share information with third parties beyond our core infrastructure providers.
How much does Nook cost?+
Nook will be free during the early access period. We will introduce simple, transparent pricing before general availability — no hidden fees, no surprise charges.
How many family members can use Nook?+
Each care circle can include as many family members as needed. One person checks in, and everyone in the circle can see their status and receive alerts.
Can I cancel anytime?+
Yes. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time. We will also provide data export so nothing is locked in.
